Resident Evil 6 needs co-op

When Resident Evil 5 was announced to have a co-op mode I was annoyed. My first thought was about how co-op would turn RE5 into a generic action game as opposed to a survival horror game. What I really wanted was more of the same standard set by Resident Evil 4. I didn’t want to have to play with someone else to fully enjoy the game – lets face it co-op AI generally sucks.

But then the game came out and after I had played the story on my own, I started again with a second player joining in. What happened next, I was not expecting, I enjoyed this second play through even more than my single player adventure. Capcom had changed the traditional formula of Resident Evil in such a way that co-op felt natural and not something thrown in at the last second.

Fast forward to 2012 and the recently revealed Resident Evil 6. The general view around the internet is that they want the game to go back to its roots and emulate the earlier Resident Evil games. I don’t agree with that opinion, I recently tried to play the PSone classic of Resident Evil and it was terrible, the tank controls bog down the game and everything moves at a snails pace. The atmosphere is another thing entirely and while I agree that Resident Evil 5 was often too bright and failed to create a scary mood, its also worth noting that gameplay influences story. The slow cumbersome controls of the first Resident Evil lent itself to a more claustrophobic setting. Capcom needs to try and create the scariness of the early games while continuing to develop and refine the gameplay mechanics.

Going back to Skyrim

Skyrim for me has been a source of both joy and despair. When I purchased it back in November I was quick to proclaim it my game of the year 2011, I even rated it over Uncharted 3. However as I played and my save file grew (I play on PS3) I began to experience the game crippling lag that many had complained about but I had yet to witness for myself.

Snow!

Suddenly this game that I had been completely addicted to for nearly two months was shelved, I was scared to play it, as even the simplest of tasks such as entering a building would cause the game to crash – this brought on the file system check that the PS3 insists on running when a crash occurs and to be honest I was tired of repeating this process over and over and so I stopped playing altogether.

First post

Welcome to the gaming blog, a place for gamers. I wanted to create this blog so that I could share my own unique gaming experiences, whether it’s getting smashed into the air by a giant in Skyrim, or getting killed for the 100th 999th time in Dark Souls. I also want this to become a place where gaming news can be posted and discussed.

I am fairly new to the WordPress party so please pardon the mess as I work out which direction I’m taking with the site. Ultimately it will become a place where I can cater for what you – the readers want, so any suggestions are more than welcome. Tell me what you like or dislike and I can work the content around that.

I have a few ideas for regular features that I am planning to run, I will go into more detail on each as I get closer to launching them. For the moment I plan on having everything run into the main blog page but if it starts getting messy I will look into separating content into multiple pages.
